I’m Back!

Ok so I haven’t blogged in what feels like FOREVER. I got this idea in my head recently and really felt the urge to start journaling. I really just wanted to jot down some things I did during the day to look back on from time to time since it feels like my life is going a million miles a minute. This “journal” would be just for me to take some time out of my day to reflect on the things I’m doing and to force myself to chill out and take time for myself. Sooooo I thought why not do it on here? I’m hoping to get myself to sit down everyday and reflect so hopefully there will be a new post everyday. Before I jump into all of that, I’m going to get y’all caught up and what we’ve been up to this off-season so far…

This off-season has been fairly short for Peter and I since it truly didn’t start until the end of October. We moved from our apartment to a townhouse in Beach Park Tampa. After the craziness of moving, Peter’s agency flew us out to San Fransisco to hang out with our baseball friends and their girlfriends/wives for the weekend. The agency put together this incredible wine tasting experience where we explored Livermore Valley, drank tons of wine and ate tons of food. Later on in the night, all of us couples Ubered to the Marina District in San Fran and went out for the night. It was such a fun night and my stomach hurt the next morning from laughing so hard. After that incredible weekend, Peter and I flew to Jackson Hole, WY and met up with his family for thanksgiving. Wyoming is probably one of my favorite places I have ever visited. I had been there once before when I was in middle school but being back there this time around was even more surreal. Jackson Hole really is God’s Country. Peter and I were so obsessed with the town that we actually ¬†looked on Zillow for mountain houses for the future. We can dream right? Once we got back from our vacation we really had to get back into the swing of things. A typical day for Peter and I when we are on our schedule is wake up around 7:30-8, make a quick breakfast together, he goes to workout/train at Athlete Retreat and I do some work until around 11ish. Then I head to the gym and try to get in an hour workout. Peter and I meet up at around 12ish and eat lunch together. We usually just eat left overs from dinner the night before but sometimes we eat out. Then I’ll do some more work until around 3-4 and then usually run some errands. Peter is an AMAZING cook so he usually cooks dinner (hallelujah) and I pretend to help ūüôā After dinner we are like an old married couple and catch up on our shows, watch movies, sometimes I read a book while he plays video games and then we usually head up to bed around 10-10:30. Peter’s leaving for Spring Training the first week of February so I really am just enjoying every moment we have together before the whirlwind of season starts again.

Alriiiight, so now on to this week. This weekend Peter and I headed to Vero Beach for his 23rd birthday to catch the Jake Owen concert. Jake is AMAZING and such an entertainer. Highly recommend seeing him if you love country music and he’s coming to your city. Monday: we had a catching up day since we spent the weekend “all play, no work” style. I had a ton of work to do and he had to get back into the swing of training so we spent most of the day apart and met up for dinner at Jasmine Thai since I was craving ramen. Tuesday: we woke up and went to one of our favorite little spots in Tampa. Pipo’s Cafe is a cuban cafe that serves breakfast and lunch and it is soooo good. We ate and grabbed cafe con lech√®s to go and tackled most of our christmas shopping. Such a relief! We headed back home after our day of shopping and cooked dinner together. Later on that night we headed over to Jake’s Apartment (one of Peter’s close friends) for his birthday. It was a beer tasting party so we brought over 3 huge bottles of beer and a cigar for him. Jake brews his own beers right in his kitchen and hopes to one day open up his own brewery (how cool!) so we even got to try some of his own home brewed beers. It was such a fun night with good conversation and good drinks. Today we woke up and Peter headed to workout while I did some work. We met up at Ciccio Water for sushi and then sat by our pool and took in some rays. It’s about 60 here during the days now and I love it. It feels cool in the shade but when you’re sitting in the sun it just feels amazing. Tonight we are going on a double date with one of Peter’s high school teammates and his girlfriend at this new gastrobar in Tampa called Bulla. It just opened up in SoHo and this will be my first time there so I’m really excited! If you haven’t already noticed I am a huge foodie so majority of these posts will probably be about food so I’m sorry about that in advance haha.

Until next time,

Summer Style

Happy Fourth of July everyoneee!

With America’s birthday coming up tomorrow and summer being in full swing (can you believe it?!), I decided to make a quick blog post on all of the fun summer trends that I am absolutely loving this year! As a disclaimer, I am ALL about comfort and actually despise wearing anything that will make me uncomfortable while I’m running errands, at the ballpark, working or just hanging out casually with family and friends. Truthfully, my everyday go-to’s during the summer are my floral and patterned playsuits and loose fitting dresses, plain tees and tanks with funky and flowy shorts, plain tees and jean shorts paired with any shoe with a heel or cute sandals and comfy maxi dresses or t-shirt dresses. All of the outfits and accessories below are something I would wear for date nights, nights out on the town, brunch dates, vacations, etc. (Most of everything below you can find on Nordstrom’s website! If you can’t find the exact item, you can find something very similar)

Ok the first is Gingham ANYTHING. It’s fun, flirty and lightweight making it perfect to sport during these hot summer days. I personally love the classic black and white gingham but I also really like the red and white pattern as well. Below are some of my favorite looks!

Solid & Striped | The Anne-Marie One Piece in Raspberry/Cream

Nordstrom | Gingham Wrap Miniskirt

Gingham Mini | Miss Pap Clothing

Gingham 2-Piece Set | Sabo Skirt

Next is 2-piece jumpsuits! Living in Florida during the summer can be absolutely brutal. When it is 95 degrees out with almost 100% humidity, the last thing you want to wear is clothes that cling to your skin. You may think that jean shorts and a tight tank top may be the better option in this weather but actually less clothing doesn’t always mean staying cool. Long flowy pants will actually keep you cooler than tight fitting shorts in the heat. Flowy clothing during these scorching hot and humid months are a MUST. Here are some of my fave sets:

Patterned 2-Piece Jumpsuit | Gillia Clothing

White Frayed 2-Piece Jumpsuit | Urban Outfitters

Striped 2-Piece Jumpsuit | Nordstrom

I have absolutely fallen in love with statement earrings this summer! They make any outfit look killer in an instant. You don’t need to be wearing a simple outfit either to rock these kind of earrings. What I’ve been loving is wearing a patterned and colorful dress/shirt and pulling out a color that I want to pop through my earrings. Here are some ¬†ideas:

Last but not least… a simple outfit accessorized with a statement clutch! This may be one of my new favorite summer trends just because of how easy yet cute it is! All you need is a white or non-patterned shirt paired with jeans or shorts/skirt, add a funky clutch and boom you’re ready to go! Funky clutches also look adorable with plain dresses as well. During the summer you don’t want to be carrying around a big, bulky bag when you’re not running errands. It’s too hot to be carrying around a heavy bag and it can make your outfit look a little messy. Clutches always put together an outfit nicely and can add some pop to your casual summer outfits. Hair Care!

I have gotten tons of questions regarding my hair and how I keep it so long and thick. First off let me tell you that my hair has always been very thick and it grows extremely fast without taking any sort of supplements. That may be genetics but there are certain products and tools that I use to make my hair looking and feeling healthy which helps keep it long and thick!

I use shampoo specifically for blondes because I do unfortunately spend a lot of money¬†getting my hair highlighted and I want those highlights to look as bright as possible in between salon visits! I absolutely love the Pureology hair care line, especially the Perfect 4 Platinum shampoo and conditioner system. This shampoo and conditioner set is a little on the pricey side but it is so worth it to keep my hair healthy and bright. The Pureology shampoo lathers up really well and it comes out a light blue color. This shampoo is gentle enough to use on your hair every time you shower and it keeps your blonde hair from looking brassy and dull. The conditioner compliments the shampoo, as it leaves no residue while making your hair soft, smooth, manageable and bright. Another one of my absolute favorite blonde shampoos is The Perfect Blonde by Pravana. This shampoo is one that you would only use once or twice a week at most because it is so concentrated. When you squeeze it out of the bottle it is a dark purple color and it works as a toner for your hair. Whenever I notice my hair getting a little brassy or yellow, I use this shampoo and even just after one use, it brings my hair back to that cool, icy blonde that I always ask for when I’m at the salon. Even if you are reading this and are a brunette, I highly recommend using a Pureology shampoo and conditioner system that works best for your hair. I have tried endless amounts of products to control my lions mane and Pureology has hands down been life changing for my hair.

I rarely blow-dry, straighten or curl my hair for a couple of reasons. It just takes too long for me to style my hair every day since I do have extremely thick and long hair and it’s just not healthy to put that much heat on you hair on a day to day basis. A couple of years ago, I blow-dried and styled my hair with heat almost every single day and my hair was starting to look extremely dull and dry, not to mention I wasted hours styling it! Now, I will only blow-dry my hair if I hop out of the shower and absolutely need to style my hair for a special occasion. Most days I will brush my hair out with my wet brush, dry it with my towel until it is just a little damp and will use the Pureology Hydrate Air Dry Cream. This cream is seriously a miracle in a bottle! ¬†I put the product over the front and back of my hands so I don’t concentrate the product on one part of my hair. Then I take strands of my hair and twist them and keep the strands twisted for as long as I can. Don’t worry about looking a little silly with all of these little strands twisted in your hair because once you shake them out, your hair stays in those natural, beachy waves using no heat and no tools! That is my go-to hair style, especially during the summer here in Florida where it is extremely hot and humid. It saves me so much time getting ready in the morning and I love the look it gives my hair.

When I do use heating tools to style my hair, my absolute favorite tool is my John Freida Curling Wand. I just like the look that the wand gives my hair as opposed to an old school curling iron. The keys to getting those big, loose, natural curls that I wear often is to 1. always curl away from your face, 2. take small enough pieces so when your curls do fall, it still looks like you curled your hair and 3. always leave your ends out of the wand to create a more natural look. Also it is important to leave your curls in with hair spray for 20 minutes before shaking them out. It helps the curls set and helps avoid your curls falling out an hour into your day (we’ve all been there). I love the Kenra Volume Spray 25 because it holds my curls in all day into the next and it feels natural while giving my hair a shiny touch. Those are just a couple of hot tips for now! In a future blog post I will do a step by step video tutorial on how I achieve my big, loose curls in more depth.

xoxo, H.
